The Great East field was the largest of the 5 Tintinhull open fields being ca. 109ac by the end of the 18c (excluding Bottom and Little East Fields) ref VCH Somerset. The map below is the Napper Estate1786 map overlaid onto an aerial view to give approximate scaling of The Great East Field for illustrative purposes. The modern fields follow the pattern of the ancient furlongs shown on this map and hence the original ridge and furrows some of which are still visible in the fields today.
